Exploration of everyday objects and natural materials
Everyday objects and natural materials offer the children in my care a versatile and varied field of learning and experience. Children need all their senses to perceive and to process their perception. By seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting, they pieced together their picture of the world. Everyday objects and natural materials or "open materials" invite the children to try out, discover and explore.
By offering everyday objects and natural materials, many different skills are supported and encouraged.
Language development - By actively dealing with the materials, the children acquire knowledge about their properties and are integrated into their vocabulary.
Body experience - Different materials and their multifaceted properties. The children receive various stimuli and thus experience and feel their bodies.
Social Experience - When a child repeatedly drops something on the floor, he learns about object permanence and social contact through whoever comes and picks it up.
The advantages of everyday objects and natural materials:
- Chestnuts, cones, stones, leaves and much more can be collected with the children. In the garden I have fruit bushes and many herbs to try, harvest, care for and of course eat. They have a prompting character that encourages the children to observe and take practical action.
I dose the exchange taking into account the level of development and the interests of the children.
They are free to examine, explore and find out what properties they have and what can be done with the material as they please.
